About Summit

Summit Elementary School is a treasured school located in the upper Ojai valley. Our school provides a unique environment that is rare today in public schools, many new families comment that "it feels like a private school" where everyone is part of the family.  The school serves a unique community where some families have been attending Summit for generations. Currently Summit school has three classrooms; 1. A combo kingergarten and first grade class. 2. a combo first, second and third grade class and 3. a combo 4, 5, 6 grade class.

Summit boasts a computer lab and library, as well as a school garden. Each classroom has a "smart board" and the school participates in the Districts "Art Trek" program which provides unique and creative art lessons each week presented by parent volunteers who have taken the monthly training sessions.  Students in grades 4 and up can participate in the weekly band lessons and the active PTO is always working to fund enrichment activities, field trips and events including the week long annual 6th grade trip to the Marine Science Institute on Catalina Island.

Summit hosts a quality preschool for 3-4 year-olds as well as a dynamic and extremely affordable after school program run by the PTO (See Condor Kids Page).

Summit School is a free public school and is part of Ojai Unified School District. Students matriculate to Matilija Junior High and then to Nordoff High.

School of Choice:
Enrollment for the 2013-14 school year is happening now. For details call: 805-625-0508 or visit our school office for an enrollment packet. Summit may have room in all grades K-6. Please call to schedule a visit today.

Summit School is a "School of Choice". This is a program based on state law. A District may designate a school or the entire district as a "school or district of choice" and thus allow students from any other community, outside of the district boundaries to enroll in their schools, where there is room.

The Ojai Unified School Board recently voted to re-open enrollment for Summit School in all grades. (OUSD also has open enrollment for 9th grade at Nordoff High). Families which live out of the district, and have students wishing to enroll in those grades can contact the school today for enrollment packets. Families enrolling in a district of choice outside of their home district need not apply to their home district for a "transfer", they only need to enroll in the school they will be attending. Once a student is enrolled under the "school or District of choice" policy he/she is "grandfathered" into that district and is considered part of that district. This means they need NOT reapply for enrollment each year but are automatically enrolled in the appropriate grade level, and the automatically matriculate up to the Junior High and High School.

Currently Summit School is accepting school of choice for students in grades K-6 from any district.  Call 805-625-0508 for more information.
